Manakamana Temple, The Wish Fulfilling Goddess

In Nepal’s Gorkha district, there is a temple dedicated to Manakamana. It is a holy location for the Parvati avatar and Hindu goddess Bhagwati. Mana, which means heart, and kamana, which means wish, are the roots of the name Manakamana. It is thought that anyone making a wish from the heart will have it granted at this location.

About 140 kilometers separate the temple from Kathmandu. It is 1302 meters above sea level and 12 kilometers south of Gorkha town. To the north of the temple, the Manaslu-Himachali and Annapurna ranges may be seen. In the south and west, respectively, lie the Trisuli and Marsyangdi river valleys.

The Manakamana Temple, which has undergone several renovations, features a four-tiered pagoda-style roof and its entrance faces southwest. Before bringing the public inside, the priest conducts daily rites and prayers behind closed doors. It is popularly held that Manakamana Devi bestows blessings on her followers by granting their requests. The two ways to go to the Manakamana Temple are by cable car and on foot. For around 10 minutes, the cable car travels the 2.8 kilometer journey. From 9 am to 5 pm during the day, the cable car is in operation. The Manakamana Cable Car, installed by an Austrian business, has been in use since November 1998.There are 34 cable cars in all, 31 of which are used for passengers and three for goods. Six passengers can ride in each cable car at once. 600 people can be handled by the system in an hour. People have benefited significantly from cable vehicle technology.
